From uncertainty to purpose — how one student found her calling through teaching and the support of a bursary.

Meet Reabetswe Mokoena, a fourth-year student at SANTS Private Higher Education Institution, whose passion for teaching was sparked by a powerful role model — her mother, a teacher.

“I never really knew what I wanted to do after Matric,” she reflects. “But my mother believed in me and suggested I apply to SANTS. I did — and that decision has changed my life.”

While navigating the demands of academic life and practical teaching, Reabetswe found strength in her love for children and the consistent support she received from the institution.

The Role of the Bursary in Reabetswe’s Success

“Teaching practice came with its own challenges,” she shares. “But what made the difference was receiving the SANTS bursary — a true blessing. It lifted the financial burden and allowed me to fully immerse myself in the learning experience.”

With the financial stress alleviated, Reabetswe was able to focus on her academic and practical journey. Through her time at SANTS, she gained not only knowledge and skills, but also confidence.

“The program helped me understand educational theory, classroom management, and the real-life impact teachers can make. I feel prepared, inspired, and ready to teach.”

For Reabetswe, teaching is more than just a career — it’s a calling.

“I want to help learners reach their full potential. Teaching allows me to inspire, uplift and transform lives — just as mine was transformed.”

And for her, one moment stands out as a symbol of that transformation:

“I received the call on Valentine’s Day — it felt like a gift of love. It showed me that education is the heartbeat of transformation, and I’m so proud to be part of the students who were awarded with the SANTS bursary.”
