The South African Research Association for Early Childhood Care and Education (SARAECE) launched a new education publication on early childhood, titled Voices from the Early Childhood Care and Education Field in South Africa on 26 July 2022 at the Cape Town Museum of Childhood in Rondebosch. The official launch of the book comes at a time when the country is celebrating Nelson Mandela month, a month where we embrace and do all things that Tata Nelson Mandela loved and believed in. Tata was a champion for education as well as an advocate for the poor. The e-book consists of 32 articles by 32 lead authors with an additional 41 authors and five editors. The authors are a combination of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) principals, teachers, researchers, academics, non-profit organization directors, and program managers.
Dr. Giulietta Harrison, Academic Head for the BEd Foundation Phase program at SANTS Private Higher Education Institution is also the outgoing president of SARAECE. Dr. Harrison is an editor of the book as well as a co-author on one of the chapters. The articles consist of summaries of the research conducted in the sector, as well as reporting on interventions and programs implemented in the ECCE sector in South Africa. The objective of the publication is to showcase the passion and positive mindset of different individuals in the sector as well as the innovative work being done amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Teachers/facilitators, ECCE and ECD field workers, funders, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and government officials are the direct beneficiaries of this publication. The book will be available on the SARAECE website http://www.saraece.org.za/, AFRICA A Plus Schools https://africaaplus.org.za/, and the Centre for Early childhood development website https://cecd.org.za/. Congratulations to Dr. Harrison and her team. We are immensely proud of your contribution to disseminating knowledge to people both near and far. To many more educational digital innovations!
