Nasipha’s life took a turn for the better when the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education offered bursaries for those interested in pursuing a career in teaching. She applied for the bursary in 2012 and embarked on a journey with SANTS Private Higher Education Institution in 2013, enrolling in the Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase. Reflecting on her time at SANTS, Nasipha expressed, “I liked the modules and what we were taught. I gained a lot of skills and knowledge, allowing me to thrive and adapt in any environment.”
During her Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL), Nasipha noticed a stark difference between her and students from other institutions, attributing it to the quality of education she received at SANTS. Now a qualified teacher, her departmental head commends her work, emphasizing the impact of the methodologies learned at SANTS.
Nasipha developed a passion for leadership and a commitment to continuous learning. Currently pursuing her master’s degree in Leadership in Education at the University of Liverpool, she hopes to bring diverse qualifications back to her community. Nasipha recently introduced the Innovative Learner Award at her primary school alma mater, aiming to encourage excellence and community development through education.
In a message to aspiring teachers, Nasipha advises, “Do teaching because you love it. Be patient and dedicated, and equip yourself with new skills, including Information Communication Technology (ICT). Communicate with parents, maintain professionalism, and engage in research to find solutions for the education sector.”
Nasipha’s success has had a profound impact on her family, as she proudly notes, “Now we are all working at home because of the opportunity I took. I can proudly say my mom has given birth to three university graduates.”
